How can I recognize REAL natural cosmetics?
You have probably heard the term "greenwashing" in connection with natural cosmetics. Greenwashing refers to marketing strategies in which companies or brands give the impression that their products are environmentally friendly and sustainable, even though this is not the case. Products are often advertised with terms such as "natural", "green" or "organic" without actually meeting the relevant standards.
This tactic caused confusion, at least for me, and destroyed my trust in the natural cosmetics industry. I learned to question critically and not be blinded by superficial advertising claims. I read up on ingredients and certifications to make sure that the products are actually environmentally friendly and sustainable.
In Switzerland at least, all the ingredients of a product must be listed on the packaging or on a package insert. That's all well and good, but who understands these "INCI terms"? Example: helianthus annuus seed oil is the same as sunflower oil. Sure, I also understand that this is a seed oil, but what kind? This is important information for allergy sufferers. In addition, the average consumer can hardly tell whether an ingredient is natural or artificial. That's why I use certifications as a guide. The labels with the strictest certification regulations are COSMOS NATURAL and COSMOS ORGANIC from Ecocert, BDHI or Cosmebio (see image). I have summarized some standards for you here:
· Clean production process, to protect the environment and health
· Responsible use of natural resources & respect for biodiversity
· Packaging: biodegradable or recyclable
· At least 20% of the ingredients must be organically grown
· Non-natural ingredients are only permitted if there are no alternatives
· Strict regulations regarding the biodegradability of products and toxicity to aquatic organisms
· toxicity for aquatic organisms
· Strict ban on GMOs, harmful substances and production processes, nanomaterials and PVC as well as petrochemical ingredients
· Limited number of approved additives
Are you wondering whether natural cosmetics are healthier?
Natural cosmetics can be an advantage, especially for allergy sufferers, as they do not contain allergenic substances such as preservatives and parabens.
But even without allergies, it is worth switching to alternative care products. Chemical products often upset the skin's balance, so blemishes or irritation are no surprise. With the help of natural ingredients, you can be sure that your skin stays in balance and can even regenerate itself.
Conclusion: I have been using various Endro Cosmétiques products for some time now and feel much better. My skin is much cleaner, I no longer have to worry about unpleasant odors when I exercise (the deodorant is really great!) and I need far fewer products for my morning or evening routine than with conventional products. You can find the Endro products in online stores like Click&Beauty, Brack etc. - Have fun trying them out!
